So it was time for Gyula Dallos horse to leave for his new home in Hungary, his wife Beata and nephew Otto came to pick him up for the 3000 km journey. We were very happy to see Beata again (including Betty) and we had a lovely outdoors dinner with vino tinto as luckily the weather still allows such luxury moments. The best luck to Beata and Otto for the journey and 'Egeszegedre' (cheers) to Gyula, we look forward to all the victories next year!

Unique Carthusian stud stallion

How often do we see these qualities in a pure Carthusian PRE? This horse has several important qualities that are unique for a pure Carthusian, the most important being the straightness in movement. Among today's professional PRE breeders the straight movements are fundamental in the selection of a PRE breeding stallion. Winging, paddling or 'campaneo' is not a desired movement for the breeding of a quality PRE. This horse is the result of professional breeding where the unique qualities of the PRE has been maintained and in his case the racestandards of the Carthusian has been improved in colour and movements.

He has class. Class shows the subtle characteristics of the special expression in the horse standing and moving. A classy coat is skinlike and shiny and the horse has alot of mane and tail. A classy temperament is noble when necessary and expressive, energetic when asked for. In a classy movement we see the expression with high kneeaction, power from behind with talent for both collective and extended locomotion.

A classy conformation; Is simple beautiful from being correct and proud.

A 100% carthusian horse is most often grey, it is very difficult to maintain the purity and engange other colourtraits such as bay and black. This horse also has no white markings which of course makes him even more exclusive. In the PRE breeding white markings are not desireable, a horse without white markings are always more valuable than one with white hairs. Same goes for coatcolour, if horses of same quality are compared a bay and black PRE is always more valuable than a grey. This horse is also professionally educated in dressage, he performs a beautiful passage, piaffe, half pass and extended trot which also proves the quality, when performed correct, like we see here.
This stallion has 12 excellent offspring, all are bay, except one that is grey and one black. We recommend him as exclusive breeding stallion and as a schoolmaster.

Vaquera, serreta, bicho, venga - many impressions for our Hungarian friends. But the greatest impression for Beata & Gyula were Pedro. 'Pedro-the-vaquera-man'. He might not have been the most beautiful rider, but he was the natural horseman. All the horses in the stable always knew where Pedro was and with one look he got the attention. Walking around with his white-tip whip he had the horses perform whatever - but very importantly - without fear, with respect. Pedro would have been the perfect classteacher, all the children would have been well behaved and very disciplined. Natural authority. Very good Pedro!

We viewed quite a few very good horses but without a personal connection to the horse no horse is seen. Mr Dallos has this very clear, he knows himself very well, he rely on and trust his feeling 100% and if it is a no, it will always be a no (no matter it if is a offered fruit or a horse). There are options for Gyula and if it is meant to be he will be totally happy with THE one.

If Spain had a big impression on Gyula & Beata, they had a big impression on us. Gyula is always with the analysis of movement. Road bumps were cavalettis and Javier geared down some real good transitions... Javier is the best GPS and driver.

Beata is the great organizer and always attentive to the feelings and needs of animals and people.

From Gyula I learned I have to trust my feeling because it is good. And because of Beata I am now a vegetarian again. Betty also gave alittle impression and got the new nickname Bettica. Thank you Beata for counting in Betty as part of the team.

The people worthwhile is the ones who always keep a smile, thank you both for being so positive every 2723 km, we will always be happy to see you!

Finding a horse for Gyula

Gyula and Beata are two wonderful people, genuine and fun with a grand passion for horses. This is their first 'holiday' in 50 years, first time they travel together in all these years without horses! Working is very good, says Gyula, most things are very good; the horses, the food, the people and of course the 'vino tinto'.

Beata is also a Grand Prix rider, she has been competing many years but is now retired as their daughter is also a competition rider and 3 competition riders in the family is too much, she says.

We have now seen horses for two days and there is one favourite.. and a nr 2. I won't say anymore because tomorrow we are travelling and viewing some others. Gyula likes the baroque horse with movements for international dressage. His famous horse Aktion was a baroque type and won over 150 international Grand Prix! This man knows from seeing the horse standing if it is his or not, he exclusively uses and trust his feeling for horses (and for people) 100%.

After a full horse viewing day we finally left our lovely german clients, it has been extremely hot but they kept sweating away smilingly. When you see that kind of happy smile you know horse and rider are a good match because they are ENJOYING themselves - and that's what it is all about!

We saw one horse in the morning and then I had to fit in a medical appointment, we had some tapas and then we kept going to see horse nr 2. Thanks to great riders and nice people we got some lovely presentations of the horses, thank you, really appreciate it! Many times the rider is not the owner of the horse, it is very difficult to make a exact appointment for traffic and riding is not easy to calculate in time either so everyone has to be flexible. But today all was flowing nicely.
We had another mare confirmed in foal with Donoso and then 3 new bookings of three PRE mares today, very exciting to see next years babies, can't wait to see more pretty babies!
Tomorrow we are viewing one of our favourite horses in the morning and then riding the boys as soon as temperature cools down a little.
This is Imperioso we sold to Sweden earlier this year, he is now competing dressage with Therese and making his owner Mari a very happy person!

Today she went home with her head full of info of her 6 favourite mares, we all agreed these 6 were the most exquisite ones so she will have alot to think about... He is barock and looks the heavy type but is the swift and light to ride, piaffe, nicely worked shoulders and there is not one muscle that is not engaged when he moves - he is serious, has power and you can raise energy as easy as you tune him down -lovely!

Cartujano - The original PRE

A horse that makes a rider happy! And that is what this race is all about. The suspended, floating movement, the lightness and the will to please is so much represented in this horse. He is a traditional PRE, how they used to be. There are few left of these genuine old bloodlines, he represents history and the original PRE that was bred by the monks in 'La Cartuja'.

He is totally reliable, has excellent ridability and is soft to handle. He will do anything for his rider, endlessly.

We recommend him for any rider that want a horse to enjoy, as a stud for his qualities are good to bring forth and breeding him will help to maintain the racial type of the PRE, which is important as it is disappearing little by little. He is registered and approved for breeding.

Jan Nivelle is currently the trainer of the spanish national team for young riders. Yesterday he held a clinic here in Madrid, Somosaguas, and we were there to get some inspiration and learn from studying and listening. I got to know Jan 2004 when I attended his clinic here in Madrid, this was also when I got to know Start that was then 5 years old. In the clinic I was riding a black PRE stud stallion not really made for dressage but that did not matter, as long as there is a problem to solve through riding Jan is interested. First he seems to scan the horse to find the weak spots. Then he figures out how to resolve the problem and invents a method if necessary. He has a open mind to the rider and is very clear in his communication and instructions. He makes an effort to see the psychology of the rider. It is obvious he finds his job as a trainer very interesting and he teaches in a lighthearted way. I remember getting great inspiration from his lessons. He is a GOOD trainer.

We are lucky to love our work and our horses, it is very personal for us which horses we select for our people and for ourselves. For most of us the match-making becomes a emotional journey. For some even self-developmental (that would be me) and for others it is a pure business to buy a horse. From being in touch we know very few of our clients resell their horses which means they are happy! We love the iberian races - PRE & PSL - and we are very determined only to sell good quality horses. First because they represent us and our work and second because it is only fair to the race of the horse. We are certainly not racists, but these purebred horses stems from a long tradition of the breeders' great emotive work which need to be appreciated and maintaned. The Iberian horse is the horse of a king. 'My kingdom for a horse' like Shakespeare said. But they are not only horses for Gods and regal people but really for humble deadly people like ourselves. So we do care for this race but we are not saying it is the best. It only is for us.

Today was another vetcheck day, two horses, both were made in our stables and both passed! We have a team of very professional collegues, thank you so much for doing a good job and being cooperative!
1. The seller of the horse drives the horse to vetcheck and for viewings.
2. The vet does the exam within a days notice.
We have been informed that the prepurchase exam we had made for Donoso and Start was the first ones (made in Spain/Portugal) ever to be recognized and accepted by our swedish insurance company! Donoso was by our vet and Start by portugese vet.

Today we got the 'Antonio Banderas' story told to us. Banderas bought a new (grand needless to say) 'bodega' and was having some journalists there to interview him and take photos. He had invited some horses with their riders too. The horse-people watched a Banderas gallopping up and down, up and down. 'And that's pretty much all he did on the horse', the story teller told us. The horse-people looked at each other, they were all thinking the same - This is the great Zorro? Meanwhile one of the horse-persons were doing levadas on our fiery chestnut PRE stallion Nr 409 Banderas saw it and immidiately said - 'Give me that horse' Ok, the rider said, smilingly...Banderas sat up. Everyone were watching with great interest - can Zorro ride after all? He (Banderas) had the photographers placed in strategic locations, very close (horse people would think dangerous-close but not say it of course) and demanded them to take a GOOD shot. NOONE could leave until they had THE shot. This is the accomplishment of one BRAVE photographer for you that did not see it before, and here is me doing it today on 409. You should try it, if Banderas can do it, you can do it!

This is Linda from Colorado. Linda called us last thursday. She wanted to know if Nr 387 could be tested for piro and we had him tested. The result came friday pm and he was negative, which is positive, as he can fly being negative.. See, negative is sometime positive! (no light without darkness) Linda could now start to think seriously if this horse was for her or not. She did not think too much, on the sunday she decided he was definitely for her. Congratulations to a excellent horse Linda, today he is yours!

Another piro-negative!

Nr 387 is a magnificent horse, he has absolutely no vices. He is trained by a professional competition rider that has set him up as a competition horse, he is now with his piaffe and passage, he is exceptionally talented. Only 5 years old.
He is turned out in paddocks every day, get the best food and is ridden in the countryside once a week. He is no stallion behaviours and is not bred.
As a PRE stud he has great value for his movements, conformation and colour. His dam is chestnut, his sire is black and he will most likely give interesting colours to his offpring. His sire is a famous stud that was sold to Mexico as one of the most expensive PREs ever.

So now he is sold. Nr 454. We lost the opportunity to sell this fantastic horse and clients lost the opportunity to buy him. Naturally we want to sell all the quality horses there is, it is the most interesting for us personally and for our business. But for every client there are only so many candidates, and for us there are quite a few suitable to sell. This is the most frustrating situation. I am not going to say - hey - look at this fantastic horse - he is perfect for you - buy him - no, I will not. It is up to You to acknowledge the qualities of a horse, to see the match and make a decision. Why is sometimes so hard to make up ones mind. Is it is a matter of believing in oneself, to trust the gut feeling and make heart and head come together? I am definitely not saying - get impulsive head over heel - no, but I am saying - don't loose your opportunity when you see it. When you like what you see and you feel what you like, you go for it.
We once has a client that fell heavily, for a horse. Then he was sold. Client was beating herself up with why did I not buy this horse, he was my dream horse, he was MY horse. She bought 3 other dream horses from us. But they were not THE horse. So we relocated the now sold horse, convinced the owner he DID want to sell him and he was hers. This was a happy go lucky end, client got HER horse, however this is not the most straightforward way and not the most economical either..

Outlaw sheriffs?

Today was 'Guia-dia' the day when we have to go and get the transport certificate signed by the official agriculture department for getting the horses transported out of Spain. 'Guia-day' is normally not a good day. It is like a bullfight in byrocracy. Please can't we end all bullfights once and for all. To get these documents we need hundreds of transport details, drivers licence, truck license, desinfection certificate of th truck, routeplan with minute details, names of resting stables, postal codes etc, etc. Just to get people to send you all you need is a weeks work on the email. The office is in Madrid, 1,5 hours in the traffic. And that is if you DON'T get hit by a police car on Gran Via. Spanish whiplash Nr 2. In one millisecond I was out of the car, this is the second time my car get hit by a police and now I was not happy. I remembered the excrutiating pain and all the physio I had to do for whiplash Nr 1. I NEED MY NECK TO RIDE MY HORSES. If I was a wich I would have cursed these now frightened policemen that gave the pathetic excuse; 'There was something wrong with the brakes'. 'I AM SORRY is the word, I said (shouted) and now you go and get me the Guia!' Ambulance came, it was just in the way and causing more chaos and not necessary, whiplash is nothing you cure with an ambulance. Raining, raining, no spanish sun. There was a exaggerated amount of policecars which was abit confusing until we saw the men in handcuffs in the back of the policecar. Our car was stuck underneath that car.. A messy scene in front of all the fancy theatres. We got out. We got the Guia. And we got our videos of the horses at the pretty stables in the end of the nightmare bumpy road. Arnica, Ibuprofen and NIKKEN neck collar WILL make neck PERFECT. Tomorrow I AM riding my horses. I hope.

Her dam is our black mare Intimidad by the unique Delegado Mac - the only black bred and branded Cárdenas stallion. Her grandsire is Endrino, a stud with over 250 offspring, he was sold to México.
Mimosa was meant be the broodmare of a recently founded studfarm but because of personal reasons they now have to sell their breeding stock. She could also be a mare for riding as she is elegant and will be a tall mare, has a wonderful temperament and is very easy to handle. Mrs Leslie Reid has done 3 Olympic games and 3 Pan American Games for Canada winning the Individual Gold Medal in 2003 in the Dominican Republic! We told you she was a GOOD rider!

Leslie was the first rider to qualify for Canada's 1996 Olympic team and in November of 1996 she captured the Volvo World Cup Dressage Canadian League Final, and, although unable to attend, won the right to represent Canada.
She broke, trained and competed a bay dutch warmblood gelding called 'Mark', and became Canada's most successful dressage rider.
In 2003, Leslie and Mark, won team and individual gold at the Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic. She became a member of the Canadian Olympic team showing at the Games in Athens. They won the 2004 Dressage at Devon CDI, the Canadian League World Cup Finals and finished second in the Consolation Freestyle at the 2005 World Cup Finals in Las Vegas.
Now Leslie has bought this very talented young PRE stallion from us and here is the story;
We saw the horse the day before we had to leave for SICAB and sent a email saying we had found what we wanted for her. We viewed the horse in our stables a thursday in the evening and Javier and I agreed (special occasion) it would be more intelligent to buy this horse rather than selling him..
Silence and Leslie said; 'Let's see if he does the canter backwards too!' Which was an interesting request, we have sold a horse that did spanish walk backwards and I thought that was quite extravagant. This young-super-talent did do flying changes, half pass in trot and canter, spanish walk and even though he did not do the canter backwards he did do a extended trot that made us all think - wooow, this horse is mine! Only a very talented horse can perform with such ease, lightness and balance. Later on in the evening we had the vet drawing blood to have a pirotest done, next evening we got the results and he was piro-free, Javier and I definitely felt ambivalent about that result as if he would have been positive he would have been our horse but, with this result clients go first. On the saturday we all attended the 4 hour long 45+ xrays vet. exam which he passed.

So Nr 1 on our Best-Movements-Ever-Seen list will go to Canada, we found the right horse for the right client, when things are flowing they are meant to be, congratulations!

Hi again after 1000000 km, or something like that. Javier - the-man-that-never-get-lost was lost three times somewhere on the spanish plains, not very relaxing for him. Luckily a horsewoman whose name is Anna, including her mother had fun even so. In the car behind we had the good rider that also is a olympic rider with her husband, they were politely understanding and kept smiling with their exhausted faces. We saw good horses for both and they now had one each pinned down, Anna's from the day before.

Next day team-Anna had a rest in the spahotel and we went with the others to see more handpicked horses. One down. A very, very exclusive and showmerited PRE stud stallion PSG level, totally impressive to look at moving and standing, well within the race yet super mover for dressage, the type of PRE to believe in for international dressage.

The young one that cooperatively traveled to our stables we spotted before the SICAB, we were impressed as he is totally unique for movement, size and composition and picked him for this client. PRE 3 going 4 years doing flying changes, half pass in trot and canter, perfect spanish walk and a super extended trot and most importantly for a serious dressage rider - flying gaits. At one point we thought he was also going to gallop backwards but instead he did a tempi-four attempt. Only a very talented horse can perform these movements with such balance and easiness, it is not about making him do it, it is totally natural and easy for him as his body is so correctly built. He is a very important representative for the PRE race. Olympic-eyes focused, good sign. The next hour blood was drawn and the piroresult was negative and vetcheck tomorrow. It would probably be more intelligent to buy this horse than to sell it...
We finished the day and kindly olympic rider helped me with Start which was pure inspiration to me and Start looked totally surprised about the work he had to do, so much! I was told we could to win a Small Tour which of course was very encouraging to hear.
Today team-Anna went home with their horse-notes, all their shopping, olive trees etc etc. We saw the young-flying-talent again in the morning. Olympic-husband testride that went well, both rider and horse seemed to like the spanish walk but it was also a matter of not finding the stop-the-spanish-walk-button.. has to do some improvement there..

Then it was Donoso's turn to get his body moving supple and doing the changes when he was told to. Very helpful excercises, D is clever, gets it with one correction, help was super, thank you!

No white markings and ALOT of pretty hair! How about that. Born 2004. Apto.

This elegant 'torero' is classy, jet black, young, has super suspended and correct movements and will do a wonderful extended trot. Has just started his work and he is serious about it. Born 2006.

Exciting week coming up!

We have a week of clients ahead of us and we have been making phonecalls, viewing horses, riding horses, negotiating horses, driving many kilometres, fitting schedules with trainers and owners etc, etc. This coming week needed extra fitting as we have two different clients to match - one from Sweden and the other from Canada, they are both looking for quality horses but for different purposes. Now all is set and I am really happy as this time our collegues have been exceptionally cooperative and will even bring down/up horses to 'our' stables in Madrid to save our clients some kilomtetres, make the itinerary possible and our time efficient, hurray! One might think it is a straightforward process and a matter of taking the car, driving to studs and stables and look at the horses but noooooo, then this would be the most glamorous job in the world and it is not, to organize people in Spain is extremely challenging! Javier organizes the people and the breeders and I organize Javier and the clients, it works most of the time, here J in front of the camera for once.
